INSTRUCTOR JAMES HUNDON

Professor James Hundon has been a veteran of the martial arts for over 30 years. A 7th Degree black belt in Kyohuejitsumae Jujitsu, Professor Hundon also holds a 4th Degree black belt in Small Circle Jujitsu, along with black belts in Chinese Kenpo, Kodokan Jujitsu and Sugar Ryu Jujitsu. Professor Hundon has competed, demonstrated and taught throughout the United States and Canada, as well as in the Caribbean Islands.

Returning to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1994, Professor Hundon developed the fundamentals of the UIOSD style- a nontraditional approach to street survival, encompassing the Filipino art Eskabo Daan, Chinese and western boxing, and Jujitsu. During the same year, he opened the Universal Institute of Self Defense, of which he has been the sole owner since 1997. An accomplished teacher, Professor Hundon now divides his time between the UIOSD dojo, located at the Alice Arts Center in Oakland, and the Whitney Young Child Development Center in the Bayview-Hunters Point district of San Francisco.

TRAINING

In the mid-1970s, Professor James Hundon began training under the tutelage of Sifu Felix Macias, Sr. Sifu Macias himself had been a student of Bruce Lee and studied in Oakland, California with James Lee (no relation) from the late sixties until James Lee's passing in 1973.

Professor Hundon, one of Sifu Macias' most dedicated students, spent countless hours training and developing his skills in Sifu's garage with a select group of equally dedicated students. Professor Hundon next went on to study, compete, and eventually teach under the founder of Small Circle Jujitsu, Great Grand Master Wally Jay of Alameda, California (pictured above left with Professor Hundon).

During his time with Great Grand Master, Professor Hundon won many competitions, garnered numerous awards and even received a book credit for "Dynamic Jujitsu"- the first book published about Small Circle Jujitsu. In 1986, Professor Hundon moved to New York where he continued to intensify his training, enjoying the privilege of studying with some of the greatest martial artists of our time: Professor Robert Crosson, Soke Lil’ John Davis, Soke James McQueen, founder of Kyohuejitsumae Jujitsu, and Doctor Moses Powell.

Professor Hundon has continued to expand his martial arts expertise in recent years, learning Grand Master Robert Castro's Eskabo Daan system and integrating it into the UIOSD training regimen.
