Services
for children with disabilities and special needs
| | The Americans
with Disabilities Act and Unruh Civil Rights Act demands reasonable accommodations
of inclusion. Whitney Young has taken great steps to include individuals with
disabilities into our program; it is Whitney Young's belief that reasonable accommodations
just aren't enough.
In 1969, Whitney Young was recognized as becoming the
first school in the nation for mainstreaming low-income handicapped children.
Whitney Young has mainstreamed children with disabilities, both mental and physical,
mild and severe, in our centers for over 40 years Disabled children are given
the same opportunities to participate in all programs available at our centers
as well as our arts-based curriculum; exposure they would otherwise not receive.
All children are treated as equals in our centers. | | | |
