![]() Erika Forbes, Executive Director |
We are pleased to announce that the Whitney Young Child Development Center has just hired a new Executive Director. Her name is Erika Forbes. She came on board starting Monday September 8, 2008. Erika has been in the field of early childhood education for 20 years. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Hayward, in early childhood development with a minor in Interpersonal relations. She also has a Masters in World Religion. She began her career as an assistant teacher with the Hayward Unified School District. She has worked in every aspect of the field, from marketing and public relations to training educators in early child development education. She has conducted parenting classes for large corporations such as Geico and Nokia. In addition, she has had the opportunity to present educational best practices to organizations such as The California Association for the Education of Young Children (CAEYC) as well as the National Association for Young Children (NAEYC). She has received a number of awards including one from the Mayor of San Diego for building the first child care before and after school program in a high rise for the city. We believe that with her past experience and knowledge of the field and her great enthusiasm, she will help move Whitney Young forward. We invite you to help us welcome our new Executive Director. |

| Whitney Young Child Development Center offers structured and challenging programs by our specialists in martial arts,drumming, music, and dance. These programs help engage the children's attention and inspire their curiosity. and develop their self esteem, and confidence. | |||

8 year old Romeikus is a benefactor of this quality program. Romeikus is the recipient of a full scholarship from San Francisco Ballet, a school internationally known for its academic standards. Romeikus will be performing in San Francisco Ballet's production of the Nutcracker in December. Whitney Young has started a pilot program that provides transportation to the scholarship recipients to attend classes at these specialized training schools. |

"Season Of Dreams" was performed by Whitney Young students on December 21, 2007 at the Koret auditorium in the Main Library. "Season of Dreams" is a musical with original text and music in which the characters confronted problems and differences in following their dreams, but did not allow destructive influences to deter them from reaching their goals. | ||

Once a month our talented students entertain the patients of Saint Mary's Hospital in the physical therapy unit. Performances by our young students bring tears of joy from the patients and staff alike, leaving them with renewed energy. | ||

These energy-contagious performers have started entertaining seniors at the On Lok Institute of Aging, and are working on a collaboration performance with 6 seniors from the center to be performed in December. | ||
