Whitney Young Child Development Center Welcomes New Interim Executive Director

Please help us welcome Ms Cory Pohley as our new Interim Executive Director. Her start date was June 1, 2010. We anticipate that Ms. Pohley will serve in this position for a period of six to nine months. During this time the Board will explore partnership opportunities and engage in a search to identify a permanent Executive Director. The Board worked with Compass Point Non Profit Services to identify a consultant to support the agency through this transition.

Ms. Pohley brings over twenty years experience initiating, planning and administering child, youth and family programs. Her skills include interim executive management, program development and design, agency and collaborative management, staff training and supervision, resource development, partnership building, grants management, grant writing and fund development, board, funder and stakeholder relations, and infrastructure development, among others.

Ms. Pohley has held three previous Interim Executive Director posts most recently for the Boys & Girls Clubs of North San Mateo County – she comes highly recommended. She has also served as Executive Director of A Home Away From Homelessness and held numerous other senior management positions.

We believe Ms Pohley is a good fit for this period of transition.  We are moving forward to become certified Preschool for All sites. This includes developing high quality teachers, creating inviting classroom environments and making overall facility improvements.

We encourage parent participation and welcome community collaborations as we move forward with this transitional period.

We also welcome two new Board members:

Ravelle Taylor is a former parent and active member of the parent group at Whitney Young’s Bayview site.  By profession, she is a head start teacher at another school  in Bayview so she will  brings an objective educational insight to our board as well as a parent’s viewpoint.

Muszetta Jones has four children who attended Whitney Young during their early developmental stages as well as the after school program.  She was president of the Parent’s board for two years and brings to the board her passion for educational opportunities for not just her children, but all children.   She is a Physical Education Teacher at Thurgood Marshall High School and an active member of her church, Jones Methodist.
